Bridget Zinn

The Apocalypsies lost one of our own yesterday. When Bridget Zinn joined the group, she knew she may not be able to participate as much as she'd like, since she was dividing her time between "being a cancer-fighter and a writer." Certainly she wanted to spend more time as a writer, and we all wish she could have too.

2009 was an eventful year for Bridget--she signed with agent Michael Stearns, was diagnosed with cancer, got married, and sold her first novel, POISON. She fought the "stupid cancer thing" with bravery and humor, but left the world way too soon yesterday at age 33.

It was just in February she wrote this funny and inspiring post about her book sale, "What I'm Not Going to Blog About."

Member E.M. Kokie, one person fortunate enough to have known Bridget as a friend, wrote a lovely tribute to her, as did her agent Michael Stearns on the Upstart Crow blog.

We're thankful for the time Bridget was here and for her words we'll get to read, and mourn with the writing community that she wasn't with us longer. Most of all, our thoughts are with Bridget's family and friends after such a great loss. We will miss her and the stories she didn't have time to tell.

  2. I am so sad. What a lovely person! Bridget's blog is completely inspiring, and her book sounds fabulous, and I just wish she could have had the thrill of holding that book in her hands.

On May 18 she tweeted, "Sunshine and a brand new book. Perfect." That just stops me in my tracks! I'll be thinking of you, Bridget, (and your brave and cheerful heart) every time I open a new book on a sunshiny day -- and I look forward to the day when that book is YOUR book. Rest in peace.

  5. Oh, this is so sad! My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. It's just not fair! So young, and she had her whole life and writing career ahead of her!

Cancer is a #$%#$! We've lost LK Madigan and now Briget.

  10. So very sad, and so unfair. She was here for such a short time. I'm so happy for her tho, that she achieved some of her dreams in the time that she was with us and had so many caring people in her life.

  17. I'd followed Bridget since first hearing about her signing with Upstart Crow. I'd followed her fight and hoped for the best. What a terrible loss for all of us, but most of all for her husband and family.
